Acts 22:22 (NLT) “The crowd listened until Paul said that word…” The small town pastor and church typically don’t have as big a ‘pool’ to draw from as churches in large urban and suburban areas. Yet Jesus, the builder of the Church, expects our churches to have significant impact wherever we are located. So for those of us in small towns there is an even greater need to intentionally cast a wide net. Here’s what I’m talking about: Every pastor has a certain demographic they n
The first ever Small Town Church Conference will be October 3-4, 2016 in Villa Rica, Georgia, hosted by LifeGate Church. I love pastoring in a small town and, along with the other Small Town Church lead team members, believe every small town church can have huge impact for the Kingdom. I am excited about this conference and would like to share some reasons I think you should be here too: 1. The SmallTown.Church Conference is planned for the specific dynamics of the small town
One of the things I have learned about pastoring in a small town is sometimes things don’t move at the pace you wanted them to move. Securing and preparing your venue takes longer, your planned launch day gets moved back, the growth rate in your first year was not what you expected. And if you have ever done a building project you definitely know it will not move at the pace you want! I’ve noticed that a lot of pastors and leaders are D’s on the DISC personality test—Drivers.
Sheryll and I have been married over 40 years and have been senior pastors for over 25 years. During that time we have seen 3 children grow up, get married and give us 7 grandkids. As our kids grew up, we went through the normal highs and lows of parenting-- basking in the glow as our wonderful children achieved amazing things and shrinking back in horror and disbelief when one of our ‘perfect children’ discovered previously unknown depths of depravity. We have served in ever
Sheryll and I have had the privilege of starting and pastoring 3 churches. Our church, LifeGate Church in Villa Rica, also has 2 campuses with more on the way. Our campuses are all led and taught by the campus pastors because she and I have always had a passion to see other couples released into effective ministry. Of those 5 churches we have been part of starting, 4 are in small towns, ranging in population from about 1500 to almost 25,000. I love pastoring, and I especially
“But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave...” - Mark 6:11 When we first moved to Villa Rica there was very little commercial growth. We had moved from Cobb County, one of the 5 major Atlanta metro counties. Of course, with over a million people in Cobb, anything you wanted was right around the corner. So we knew there would be fewer options when we moved to Villa Rica. My wife Sheryll said if we would just get a Pub
